So I'm diving head-first into my DIY projects.  Last night I cut 60 pieces of paper for my second tissue paper pom, and then FI made my life easier and cut 40 more for me today.  I only have a traditional paper cutter, not a sliding one, so it doesn't work for cutting the tissue paper.  Chris, however, is smart and figured out a way to cut it a lot faster than I can.  So he's now in charge of cutting, and I'm in charge of folding, wire wrapping, cutting, fluffing, and gluing onto the styrofoam ball.  Yay.  I'm currently at FMIL's house because they are in Vegas and we're watching the dogs.  They come home tonite after midnight, so I have plenty of time to twist up some flowers.

Yesterday I tried one last time to twist a "Mrs. Neal" dress hanger and I guess the third time was a charm!  I was about to give up and write "I do" or "bride," but I'm glad I put one last effort into my new last name.  Now I just need to paint the hanger chocolate (the maple is far too light), have FI drill holes for the wire to go into, and add a blue bow.

On other news... I am starting to panic.  It's already July and we still don't have a venue for our reception OR for our ceremony.  Our budget is just so seriously limited and we live in the most expensive place in America to have a wedding... so it's killing me.  I'm hoping to have somewhere ASAP so I can relax.  I swear, once we have a place and a date set in stone, I will feel so much better.  I feel like I'm making things for something that's not really going to happen haha.  I still picture the Clubhouse every time I think about our wedding.  I might just have to get creative with the guest list to make it work.  We shall see.

Well, back to folding and twisting tissue paper flowers.  Such is life for a DIY bride.

So I've been gathering ideas and doing research since we got engaged in December, and now that it's June I'm actually starting to put some of that homework to use.

I've recently finished the first of five tissue paper poms for our ceremony space.  They truly are a labor of love, but I think they'll be so very worth it in the end.

I also started working on my "Mrs. Neal" dress hanger today.  It's been a lot harder than I thought it would be.  The "Mrs." has looked awesome for both of my trials... but the "Neal" is a PITA.  I'm gonna keep trying to get it right though.  If not, I might just make an "I do" hanger or a "bride" hanger for sanity's sake.

Chris and I also visited our first venue this Wednesday.  It's the Clubhouse at Hilltop Farm, which is home to the West Mont United Soccer Association.  The Clubhouse is gorgeous, but small.  We could definitely make it work.  It's also within our budget (so affordable!) and lets us have an outside caterer and is BYOB, so that's also a major plus.  It's set up perfectly for making entrances and walking down aisles, so that's another selling point.  I have a list of about 5 more venues to look at, and then we'll start dragging our moms out to look at our top choices and give us some input.

Finally, I have asked all of my girls to be in my wedding party.  Surprisingly, Britta seems to be more excited than anyone.  Mine is the first wedding she's been asked to be in, and she said she's actually gotten online and looked up bridesmaid etiquette.  I don't expect any of my girls to do anything except show up, but it's really nice to know I can count on her to come over and help with some of my wedding projects as they come up.
